Technology Services
Today, attorneys frequently review massive amounts of computerized text and data to locate, analyze and organize key evidence in preparation for client cases.
Kroll’s technology group helps attorneys and litigators at corporations, law firms and government agencies gather and filter electronic documents for use in legal proceedings, regulatory matters and investigations. We also recover, restore and protect electronic data that has been erased, reformatted or lost, and investigate the causes of technology and data tampering.
Our technology-related services are described in detail below.
Electronic Discovery
Kroll’s electronic discovery services support the legal discovery process by assisting with the collection, analysis and production of electronic documents that can be presented as evidence in civil or criminal actions. Our capabilities range from consultation and the use of our data collection software to full-service engagements, where we conduct the entire electronic discovery process. Our electronic discovery team consists of legal consultants (attorneys who specialize in electronic discovery issues), project managers and engineers, all of whom work closely with clients and their legal representatives to orchestrate the timely delivery of electronic data for review.
Computer Forensics
Computer forensics services help clients determine computer-related conduct – the "who," "what," "when," "where" and "how" of computer and technology use. Clients primarily use computer forensics services to investigate computer-related activity that may be the cause for civil litigation, criminal charges, or administrative actions, such as an employee’s dismissal.Kroll’s computer forensics specialists, who frequently come from law enforcement backgrounds, are trained to identify where key evidence is likely to be located on a computer’s hard drive and to prepare a comprehensive account of events or computer usage. Client assignments generally require these specialists to travel to customer locations to capture data.
Because the data recovered is often entered into evidence in court proceedings, the entire process of gathering and analyzing data takes place under careful “chain-of-custody” controls. In some cases, our engineers and managers are called upon to testify as expert witnesses in related court cases.
Data Recovery
Kroll helps individuals and organizations locate, recover and analyze active, deleted or damaged electronic data from computer systems. Problems range from hardware-related issues – such as crashed hard drives or water-saturated disks – to data that has been lost through erasure or a problem with the operating system.
